THE STABS – DEAD WOOD PRESS INFO
BIO
“Dead Wood” Now Available through Spooky Records / MGM. “They possess an approach and an understated attention to detail sorely lacking in contemporary punk”. Steph Hughes - Triple J Exploding onto the live scene midway through 2003 THE STABS have been consistently shocking and rocking ever since with their high energy style of music disguised as mayhem. The three members of THE STABS each bring different tastes and influences to the table, which ends up in the melting pot to form one of Melbourne's most exciting live bands today. One thing they all have in common is a love for good songwriting and pop sensibilities with a healthy appetite for swampy feedback and noise. Since 2003 THE STABS have toured independently outside Australia five times, released three 7” singles, sold out two pressings of their debut album Dirt, supported the likes of Mudhoney, Rowland S Howard, The Scientists and Lubricated Goat and continue to play shows all over Australia. 2009 has been a huge year for The Stabs having played the inaugural Australian 'All Tomorrows Parties' festival at the request of curators Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. They also made a trip across the ditch to play New Zealand’s legendary ‘Camp a Low Hum’ and made their first visit to Asia, touring Malaysia and Taiwan during August. October sees the release of their second album DEAD WOOD on Spooky Records. A much more accomplished effort than their first, this album contains some of the best songs the band have produced to date and is sure to go down in history as an Australian classic.
The 'Stabs' own name is a pretty accurate indication of how these guys approach music making...
