Spencer P. Jones 'These Days'
spooky002
Rip It Up – Adelaide This is not a Powderfinger cover, but another outstanding tune from Mr Jones with These Days being a swaggering giant of a track. Opening with a big band horns fanfare, Spencer croons and schmoozes his way through the vocals, with a suitably epic accompaniment, only pausing briefly for a soaring guitar solo. An absolute monster of a tune on its own, These Days comes backed with a veritable smorgasbord of musical delights. From the highbrow sophistication of These Days, Stolen Car Serenade descends into dirty blues-rock territory with a screeching hook and careering rhythm section that veers uncontrollably. What’s Got Into Him? Has a more funk-ridden edge as pulsating bass beats play host to Spencers own brand of spritual healing, while Your Pretty Face {is going to Waukeegan} staggers and screams with a football terrace chant and hammering bass line. Wrapping up with the super warped instrument, Negative, Spencer P. Jones delivers a rich blend of blues, rock and funk and produces one of the finest singles around for some time. By Rodger Smith
