The Double Agents Bio “Whether it’s danger, confession, crooked love or backwards glances; you’ll get a winning and inspired blend of swaggering soul, ragged rockin’, moody blues, and even a touch of rolling country, right here”. Rip It Up - Australia
The Double Agents are a rare band in this age of manufactured, pimply faced, pretentious so-called 'rock' groups. These three guys and two gals simply don't give a fuck what the world wants. It's their way or no way at all.... That's why we, at Spooky Records are so damn happy to have them on board for their debut album……..'Friends In Low Places'. A favorite of many on the Melbourne live scene, The Double Agents have been makin' hips shake and feet stomp for the last three years in a town that music aficionados call THE rock'n'roll capital of the world. To impress such a large number of punters is in itself no mean feat, but in doing so they've also managed to rack up some serious stage time alongside some of the greats of the Aussie scene and some of the best on the planet.... Dead Moon, White Stripes, The Datsuns, Cosmic Psychos, Spencer P Jones, 5678's, Kim Salmon, Rob Younger and Deniz Tek's Deep Reduction and The Drones... to name but a few. Friends In Low Places is truly an astounding record. So great in fact that words really do it no justice and besides, how do you describe on paper what this band does? This is a rather schizophrenic record that takes tangents between flat out good-time boogie rock, swampy fuzz overloads, delicate country musings and lush reverb-soaked ballads. It’s been described as like a licorice allsort...with its many different layers, colours & tastes! 'Unique' is the only word that fits and even then it barely hints at what lies buried on this disc. It's what The Double Agents do with their line up that perhaps goes some way to explaining why their sound is so varied. Lets start with the rhythm section. So big and fat you'd smoke it if you could! Myles and Sharon embody all thats needed in the bottom end, tight but with that special kind of looseness that the Stones had in the mid 70's. A sense of just layin' down that groove without a care in the world. Next up it's Diamond Dave, chief songwriter in the band. Smashing away at his battered old Telecaster like its his last night on earth, one moment screamin' and a-hollerin', the next crooning over a love gone horribly wrong. His partner in crime on the mike is the sensually soulful Miss Kimmy. A woman with a rock'n'roll knowledge that would put most fellas to shame, she sings with an attitude that is so undeniably real that it'll leave you reminiscing about the glory days when Patti Smith ruled the rock'n'roll kingdom. The ways she plays her piano goes from one extreme to the other to effortlessly suiting the bands many moods. Sometimes it's pounded to within an inch of it's life, whilst on the more mellow numbers she caresses loving, tear soaked notes from within it's keys. And then, tying it all together on guitar and lap-steel is Ryan Tandy, a shy man who speaks volumes through his playing. A real dark horse. Some say he's the best they've ever seen, others are left with a sly grin knowing they've witnessed something truly special.
The Double Agents have a chemistry and bond shared by all greats bands in rock & roll history. They are a family, a gang if you like. Fuck with them and they will hit you back twice as hard. They want to rock your world, and they will........................
