BIO

History:

The band originally formed in early 2001 as a writing outlet for Blake and Woody who quickly teamed with Michael and John who joined the band on piano and organ. About a year later word had got out that these 4 were writing some cool tunes and fucking up classics written by Iggy Pop, Happy Mondays, Bob Dylan, Space Man 3 and Velvet Underground and gigs were being offered before a line-up was even settled on. They started doing regular shows throughout the summer of 2001/2002 with a bunch of guests sitting in as rhythm section. At one point even Kram from Spiderbait was a regular. Around this time Nabisco Stu (local DJ at one of the regular gigs) started jumping on stage and supplying percussion.

During the following winter they went into the studio and recorded their debut album MODERN HOLIDAY.  (CORD116).  By the time of the albums release in early 2003 on Corduroy Records (CD & Vinyl), Spot and Francios old friends of the group had returned from OS and joined the squad as the permanent rhythm section.

The band started to gig more regularly now, but had not settled on definitive positions within the band. Whilst the line-up experimented with formation over the following winter, they recorded there second record BREAKFAST WITH JAPE SQUAD. That spring the Jape Squad settled on a definitive and final formation.

Now:

Jape Squad, well you can hardly ignore them if you catch them live, seven guys piling onto a stage and grinding out tunes that seem to teeter on the edge of chaos but constantly surprise you at every turn with clever melodies and passionate delivery. ‘Breakfast with Jape Squad’ is their second album (their first for Spooky Records) and if you think of Rolling Stones crossed with the Velvet Underground but put Shawn Ryder out front your getting close to what the Jape Squad are about………

Look out, you’re about to be Japed!
